Projected final 2020 College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings after Week 16
By Zach Bigalke
Despite how the committee has treated teams whose games have been canceled or postponed, don’t expect Georgia to drop far in the final College Football Playoff rankings. The selection committee has continued to push the Bulldogs up their Top 25 from week to week, slotting them in at No. 8 before championship weekend.
Georgia’s rise exposes the double standards of the selection committee in full relief. While the Bulldogs have no wins against teams that are currently ranked, the committee has praised the team’s performances in recent weeks after USC transfer JT Daniels took over at quarterback. In essence, the committee is overvaluing “quality losses” to Alabama and Florida and undervaluing the impact of two losses on the record.
At this point Georgia is positioned well for a spot in a New Year’s Six bowl game. Kirby Smart’s team boasts the nation’s best rushing defense and holds teams under 20 points per game, another mark that the selection committee will salivate over as they continue to bump the Bulldogs up higher than either the AP Top 25, Coaches Poll, or the old BCS formula would have them.
