Projected final 2020 College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings after Week 16

Texas A&M might just have played their way into the College Football Playoff in its make-up game at Tennessee. In taking down the Volunteers 34-13 at Neyland Stadium, the Aggies earned one final data point and maintained a single loss on their record. Given the respect afforded to the SEC as a whole, the selection committee will tip their cap in Texas A&M’s favor and put Jimbo Fisher into his second College Football Playoff after taking Florida State to the inaugural semifinals in 2014.
Kellen Mond threw for 281 yards with a touchdown and an interception on 26-of-32 passing. Mond added 59 rushing yards and a touchdown on 12 carries, one of three Aggies to rush for at least 50 yards and a score. Isaiah Spiller led the way with 89 yards and a touchdown, while Ainias Smith added 70 yards and a score on just eight carries. Texas A&M held Tennessee to only 24 total rushing yards and held on to the football for more than 44 minutes in the rout.
With Notre Dame losing in such comprehensive fashion against Clemson, the selection committee is going to want to avoid any chance of a rematch. Look for them to launch Texas A&M above Ohio State to prevent them from meeting Alabama in the semifinals, instead slotting them in the No. 2 vs. No. 3 matchup against Clemson.
