Projected final 2020 College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings after Week 16
By Zach Bigalke
Things fell apart in a hurry for Oklahoma State this season. Climbing as high as No. 6 in the AP Top 25 after a 4-0 start, the Cowboys started to plummet once the stakes increased. A loss at home against Texas ended the College Football Playoff dream. Then a second loss in the Bedlam game on the road against Oklahoma put a Big 12 championship in jeopardy. The league and a New Year’s Six bid fell completely by the wayside after losing to Iowa State.
Though Mike Gundy’s team will hold on to a spot in the final rankings put out by the selection committee, this year feels like a lost opportunity. Chuba Hubbard’s season was cut short after the Bedlam game, and he opted out in December to begin preparation for the NFL Draft. Quarterback injuries also hurt the Cowboys as they fell from Big 12 contention, as they fell to the middle of the road in most offensive categories.
Now Oklahoma State waits to see where they might land in the bowl picture. With the New Year’s Six out of the picture, the Cowboys could be headed to the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio or the Cheez-It Bowl in Orlando. Either one would provide a solid test against a potentially ranked Power Five opponent.
