2. Both Running Games Will Be Suppressed

While the Tigers are coming into this game with one of the most productive passing offenses in the nation while their rushing game is not as productive. Their rushing offense ranks 84th in the nation in rushing yards per game (141.7) and have only been able to score eight rushing touchdowns. They were second to last in the conference in rushing yards per game as they relied on the passing game. The Owls’ defense ranks 50th in the nation in rushing yards allowed per game (150.8).

The Florida Atlantic Owls do not have a productive offense this season as they are ranked 112th in the nation in points per game (20) and 110th in total yards per game (313.4). The Owls’ rushing offense is ranked 47th in the nation in rushing yards per game (185.2), which is fourth in the C-USA. They will face a Tigers’ defense that is ranked 45th in the nation in passing yards allowed per game (145.7).

Both defenses have aggressive playmakers that can challenge the opposing offensive line consistently at the line of scrimmage. The Tigers have three defenders that have accounted for at least seven tackles for loss including defensive end Joseph Morris Jr., who has accounted for 11.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks. The Owls have five defenders who accounted for five tackles for loss, including outside linebacker Leighton McCarthy, who accounted for 11.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks.

Both teams’ defense will be highly efficient in getting in the backfield of the opposing offenses.
