Alabama Football: 3 takeaways from impressive Rose Bowl win over Notre Dame

1. Devonta Smith should win the Heisman Trophy
If all of his outstanding performances this season wasn’t enough, he added to his Heisman campaign on Friday. He is coming off a career-high 15-catch, 182-yard, two-touchdown performance against Florida.
He would add to that against the Fighting Irish with seven catches, 130 yards, and three touchdowns. Smith would tie the Rose Bowl record in receiving touchdowns with Braylon Edwards.
Smith’s ability to dominate football games is what makes him so unique. He doesn’t dominate with physicality, but his blend of speed and catching. Smith’s strides are long and his legs move so quickly, it’s hard to go for his ankles. If you do, there’s a good chance he has surpassed the attempt.
Smith has put video game-like numbers during the regular season with over 1,500 yards and 17 touchdowns on the season. His route running looks effortless and his ability to cut his hips is impeccable.

His size helps him high point footballs, soaring over smaller sized defensive backs. SEC is known to be the best conference in college football, in terms of defense. In an all-SEC schedule, he has done something no other player.
For an award that is littered with quarterback winners, Smith has easily become the hot pick for the award. For the way he dominates against SEC opponents, he has been a big help as to why Jones is also a Heisman finalist.
Smith has drawn comparisons to Marvin Harrison. It’s easy to see why and in an era when quarterbacks dominate headlines, Smith’s numbers are hard to ignore.

This kid is a generational talent.
