Expect fireworks in both games

The amount of talent in the College Football Playoff, especially on the offensive side of the ball is really impressive this season and particularly when you look at a team like Alabama.

The Tide had three legitimate Heisman contenders in Devonta Smith, Jones and running back Najee Harris. Harris doesn’t get talked about as much as the others but he rushed for over 1,200 yards and scored 23 touchdowns in 11 games.

However, Smith was even more impressive catching a ridiculous 98 passes for over 1,500 yards and 19 touchdowns total if you include his incredible punt return earlier in December.

Even Notre Dame has Kyren Williams, who went over 1,000 yards rushing and Ian Book, who wasn’t spectacular but threw 15 touchdowns and only two interceptions.

The truth that none of the four College Football Playoff teams have what we would call a dominant defense. Clemson gave up 47 to Notre Dame in the overtime loss earlier in the year and that had nothing to do with Lawrence not being able to play.

Bama’s offense has been all-world, but the defense has given up 40 or more points twice this season, yet teams have eclipsed the 20-point mark just four times in 11 games.

Combined with all the dazzling quarterbacks and skill players, I would be taking the over in both contests and I think in a perfect reflection of where college football is today, both games will feature between 70-80 points.

As far as the Rose Bowl between Notre Dame and Bama, the question is, can the Irish keep it close and that’s where we go with our next prediction.
