Iowa State Football: 3 things we learned from Cyclones 2020 season
Brock Purdy is a championship-caliber QB
I love Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell, but you also have to love the guy who he found to be his quarterback in Brock Purdy.
Purdy has now been starting for the past three years and he’s been a huge part of this program reaching new heights. You need a lot of things to win at a high level and great quarterback play is one of them.
And this season, Purdy delivered that. He had a few rough games against Louisiana, Oklahoma State and in the Big 12 title game. Those were probably his worst three games and it’s no coincidence that Iowa State dropped each one.
Purdy just made some mistakes against Oklahoma that proved costly but he still had Iowa State in a position to win the game on the final drive. It just didn’t turn out to be his night.
However, he’s back for another season after throwing for 2,750 yards and 19 touchdowns, while completing over 66 percent of his throws. He also ran for 382 yards and five scores. The interceptions will need to be cut back but this QB is special.
