Boise State football has named Andy Avalos as its new head coach and here are three reasons why he will be a great hire for the Broncos.

The search for a new Boise State football coach ended up taking a little longer than expected, but when it was all said and done, the Broncos ended up with the right choice in Andy Avalos.

Avalos wasn’t the top choice, as former Boise State quarterback and current Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore probably owns that title, but that doesn’t mean Avalos won’t be a better hire in the end.

Avalos was one of the best linebackers in Boise State football history and spent years there as an assistant before spending the last two years in Oregon as the defensive coordinator.

Now, Avalos is returning and here are three reasons why this will be a home-run hire for the Broncos.

The program is all-in on Avalos

While the hiring process took some time, part of that was also the hiring of a new athletic director too, the Boise State football program seems very united behind Avalos and that’s important.

There were a lot of people who wanted Jeff Choate from Montana State, a guy with head-coaching experience, but Avalos is probably the more dynamic hire. He has a strong connection to the greatest era and head coach in Boise State history, so there will be lots of enthusiasm.

Boise State football is still a strong program, but it wasn’t what it was and maybe Avalos will be able to give it the shot in the arm needed to be the best group of five program once again.
