1. Final takeaways for Ohio State

At the end of the day, the Buckeyes could not overcome the injuries sustained before and during the game. Not only did Sermon get hurt, but guard Wyatt Davis was also injured and left the game. During the pre-game, it was reported that Justin Fields was 85 percent when he needed to be at full strength.

Despite the many players either graduating or leaving to enter the NFL draft, the Ohio State Buckeyes are simply going to reload for next season. The Buckeyes have a plethora of talent at all of the skill positions. What will be most interesting is the competition to take over for Justin Fields next season potentially.

Final takeaways for Alabama

In what can only be described as an imperfect season, the Crimson Tide proved they were a cut above everyone else in the country. Alabama played in a different atmosphere all season long. Alabama proved they were simply on a different level all season long. This game was a microcosm of their season. The Buckeyes gave it their best shot but could not keep pace with a team with superior talent.

Ironically, this could be an even more talented team next season. Saban and his staff bring in one of their most talented classes next season. The Crimson Tide keeps rolling. Those young men trusted the process and played a level above everyone else.
