Texas finds itself at an interesting crossroads. The Longhorns capped a 7-3 season with an eye-popping 55-23 victory over Colorado in the Alamo Bowl to lock down a spot somewhere in the teens of the final AP Top 25 of the 2020 season. At the same time, the school enters 2021 with a new coach at the helm after ditching Tom Herman in favor of Alabama offensive coordinator and former Washington and USC head coach Steve Sarkisian.

The win in San Antonio featured a shortened performance by Sam Ehlinger in what was likely his final game as a Longhorn. Ehlinger went 10-of-16 for 160 yards and a touchdown before exiting with a shoulder injury. Casey Thompson threw four touchdowns in relief, giving Texas fans hope for the future in Austin. The Texas defense forced two Sam Noyer interceptions and a Jarek Broussard fumble and held Colorado to only 378 total yards of offense in the blowout win.

Texas is likely going to get a bowl bump in the final rankings, though they will find themselves in a logjam behind a group of schools they would normally assume their inferiors. The hope in Austin is that Sarkisian can restore recruiting to elite levels and get the most out of the talent already amassed by Herman after four years of nail-biter after nail-biter for the Longhorns faithful.
