College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 final rankings
By Zach Bigalke
Georgia locked down a spot in the top 10 of the final AP Top 25 for 2020 with their dramatic 24-21 comeback victory over Cincinnati in the Peach Bowl. Behind 21-10 entering the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs completed the reversal on the scoreboard with Jack Podlesny’s 53-yard field goal with three seconds remaining. That kick will put Kirby Smart’s team right there among a second tier of teams behind the College Football Playoff finalists.
J.T. Daniels threw for 392 yards with a touchdown and an interception against the Bearcats, accounting for the bulk of the offense on a day when the Bulldogs struggled to run the ball. Daniels was hardly perfect, taking four sacks, fumbling twice, and losing one of those giveaways on the ground. Podlesny proved the biggest hero in black, converting all three of his field goals including the game winner.
Georgia missed out on the SEC East championship to rival Florida this year, and with it a spot in the SEC championship game. They still won a New Year’s Six bowl game and will finish in single digits in the AP Top 25 for the fourth straight year. Fans in Athens can simultaneously rue what might have been in 2020 while basking in what did transpire on the field in the season finale.
