College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 final rankings
By Zach Bigalke
Ohio State made an impressive run to the College Football Playoff championship game in 2020, making a late return to fall football with the Big Ten and making the most of their opportunity to play. The Buckeyes took the conference crown, downed Clemson in impressive fashion, and held on for about a quarter and a half before Alabama opened the floodgates in a title game mismatch. The loss will put Ohio State at No. 2 in the final AP Top 25 rankings.
Against Alabama, both quarterback Justin Fields and top running back Trey Sermon struggled to do much offensively. Master Teague III turned out to be Ohio State’s best offensive weapon, racking up 62 yards and two rushing touchdowns in the first half of the national championship game. The Buckeyes defense struggled to contain Heisman winner DeVonta Smith and the rest of a loaded Alabama offense, giving up 28 points in the second quarter as the Tide started to run away with the result.
Even with the loss blemishing an otherwise perfect campaign, Ohio State can hold its head high after reaching the championship. They will be ranked ahead of everyone but Alabama when the AP voters turn in their final ballots, as they will be in pretty much every other human poll and computer ranking once all the numbers are crunched and 2020 is filed away for good into the annals of history.
