College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 final rankings
By Zach Bigalke
Alabama made short work of Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff semifinal, knocking the Irish out 31-14 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. For a while it looked like Ohio State might hang with the Crimson Tide in their College Football Playoff championship matchup at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. By the intermission, though, Alabama was already up 35-17 and rolling to their sixth national championship under Nick Saban.
Heisman winner DeVonta Smith showed why he was the first receiver to win the award since 1991, racking up 12 catches for 215 yards and three touchdowns against Ohio State before halftime. Mac Jones went 22-of-25 for 319 yards and four touchdowns in the first two quarters, and both Justin Fields and Trey Sermon were largely neutralized by a stout Alabama defense that entered the game averaging only 19 points allowed per game.
With another title under their belt, Alabama will once again have to retool head of the 2021 season. As it is, though, the Crimson Tide will walk away as undisputed champions for 2020 after their comprehensive run through a 13-game slate. Even had a Group of Five team finished undefeated as well this season, they would have had a hard time topping the Tide in either human polls or computer rankings.
