Ohio State Football: 3 Takeaways from title game loss to Alabama
Justin Fields leaves a proud legacy
Monday night wasn’t the finest hour of Fields’ Ohio State football career, but he played his heart out, even though he was only able to complete 51.5 percent of his passes.
Without Sermon, Fields was forced to shoulder to much of the load and even though the Buckeyes did have a solid running game, it was hard to rely on that when the lead got out of hand.
Alabama forced him into tough throws and his accuracy is still going to take some work for the NFL, but still, he’s built quite the legacy in two seasons with the Buckeyes. Not only did he win two Big Ten championships — he led OSU to the playoff twice and the national title game.
He ended up being the perfect addition for head coach Ryan Day during his first two seasons and he was missing piece — that elite quarterback.
Of course, Fields could come back but we all know he’s headed to the NFL. Day called him a warrior Monday night after the game and there’s no doubt Fields will go down as one of the better quarterbacks in recent Ohio State football history.
Will he be able to break the streak of Ohio State quarterbacks busting in the NFL? That’s another question for another day.
