Ohio State Football: 3 Takeaways from title game loss to Alabama
Ohio State reached its ceiling
It was a great run for Ohio State football, especially with the Buckeyes able to get revenge on Clemson for their loss in the semifinals a year ago, but this team simply wasn’t good enough to win the national championship, not in a year with an Alabama team that good.
The Crimson Tide definitely have a case to make as one of the best offensive college football teams of all time with three viable Heisman candidates in Jones, Smith and Harris.
Alabama rolled up more than 621 yards of total offense with 464 of that coming through the air. Smith caught 12 passes for 215 yards and three touchdowns for goodness sake. On some levels, it just wasn’t a fair fight.
The Buckeyes don’t have the elite pass rusher (yet) on the roster that they have had in the past and it showed. But you have to give credit where credit is due, and Day got everything he could get out of the 2020 Ohio State football team.
