Ohio State Football: 3 Takeaways from title game loss to Alabama
OSU isn’t going anywhere
While the loss will be a bitter pill to swallow for Ohio State fans, they can take solace in the fact that the Buckeyes will likely be back in the College Football Playoff next season or at least will have a strong chance.
You might ask how when the Buckeyes are losing Fields and Shaun Wade, but this program is a recruiting juggernaut.
CJ Stroud and incoming freshman Kyle McCord will be among those competing to take over for Fields and McCord will be one of 12 top-100 recruits in 2021, including the No. 3 pro-style QB, the No. 1 running back and the No. 1 wide receiver, as well as elite players at DE, CB and DT.
Even if Chris Olave doesn’t return, Ohio State is going to be loaded at all of the skill positions and guys like Zach Harrison will continue to take steps forward on the defensive side of the ball.
The Philadelphia Eagles just fired their head coach and Day was formerly the QB coach there, so it’s possible he becomes a candidate, although he shot down the Jags instantly.
As long as Day doesn’t bolt for the NFL, I’d expect Ohio State to win the Big Ten championship again and probably have as good a chance as anyone of making the playoff in 2021.
