30 Best College Football Mascots of All-Time
21. Virginia Tech Hokies – HokieBird
The turkey-like figure replaced the Fighting Gobbler at Virginia Tech that first took the field in 1962. In 1981, HokieBird made its debut against Wake Forest but it wasn’t until Frank Beamer returned to Blacksburg that the HokieBird as we know and love it today made its debut in 1987.
Naturally, it showed up at the stadium in a white limousine. Today you will see HokieBird lead the team out on the field while Metallica’s Enter Sandman plays, doing pushups or bench presses after every Virginia Tech score and crowd surfs in the student section.
There is nothing cooler than a college football mascot that loves thrash metal at your home games. It can truly help get into the heads of your opponents, one riff at a time.
