6. Texas A&M Aggies – Reveille

Reveille is the highest-ranked member of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets and has the rank of Cadet General with five diamonds on her blanket. Students in 1931 brought the original Reveille into their dorms, where pets weren’t even allowed.

The name came to be after the dog started barking when Reveille played on the bugle. Since 1966 when Reveille III took over the dog has been a purebred Rough Collie. Reveille has a personal guard assigned to her, including in class, where if she barks, that class is canceled.

No mascot may be held in higher esteem than Reveille. According to the Houston Chronicle, deceased Reveille’s are buried side-by-side in a cemetery in front of Kyle Field. They are buried with their noses and paws pointed so that they could look through the north tunnel and see the stadium scoreboard. This way, “they can always watch the Aggies outscore their opponent on the field.”
