24. Florida Gators – Albert and Alberta

They are the first couple of college mascots. Albert and Alberta are the official mascots for the Florida Gators adorned in blue and orange suits with Albert making his first appearance in 1970. A live alligator named Albert served as the mascot in 1957 until the costumed Albert started appearing at football and basketball games.

14 years later, Albert would get his female counterpart with Alberta joining him in The Swamp in 1984. Talk about love at first sight, eh? These two are so popular, back in 2007, they were named the No. 1 mascot in all of college football by Sports Illustrated On Campus.

Besides bringing that extra good luck on game day for the Florida Gators, they have several children’s books for all the little gators in your family. It’s the perfect way to get your little ones to be future Florida Gators fans for the rest of their lives once they learn how to read.
