Honorable Mention

Who landed in the honorable mention category for best wide receiver single seasons in college football history? There were three great seasons in this section of the list.

Trevor Insley, Nevada, (1999)

Certainly, Trevor Insley has a great case to be included within the main list. After all, he is amazingly the only receiver to put up over 2,000 yards in a single season. Insley had already put together an impressive career for the Wolf Pack leading into the 1999 campaign. Apparently, he was determined to take things to another level. In fact, he pulled in 134 catches for a jaw-dropping 2,060 yards as well as 13 touchdowns. The lack of touchdowns and all-around game, combined with incredible seasons put together by other receivers, barely kept Insley off the main countdown.

Davante Adams, Fresno State, (2013)

Before Davante Adams became a seemingly unstoppable force for the Green Bay Packers, he was racking up video game numbers at Fresno State. Adams only played two seasons in Fresno, with current Las Vegas Raider, Derek Carr, as his quarterback. During those incredible two seasons, he grabbed 233 catches for 3,031 yards along with 38 touchdowns. His sophomore year saw him snag 131 of those balls for 1,719 yards, as well as 24 touchdowns, which is what lands him on this list. Also, every one of those marks led the entirety of college football for the season.

Stedman Bailey, West Virginia, (2012)

Lastly on the honorable mention portion of the best wide receiver single seasons list, is Stedman Bailey. The Mountaineers were playing their first season in the Big 12 in 2012, led by quarterback Geno Smith. Despite the fact that star receiver Tavon Austin was on the team and put up over 1,200 yards himself, Bailey set himself apart during the season. In fact, he caught 114 passes for 1,622 yards. Incredibly, Bailey came just two touchdowns short of tying the all-time single-season record by making 25 appearances in the end zone. Additionally, he returned 10 kicks for 146 yards.
