Overall Offensive Grade: D

The offense had its moments last season, considering the lack of an offseason to learn Norvell’s offense. The running game was effective at times averaging 5.2 yards per rush. The Seminoles running game capped off their season with a 343 yard, six-touchdown performance against Duke. The passing game was not as effective for Florida State this season.

The Seminoles started four different quarterbacks and threw 10 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Jordan Travis, their leading passer, was more of a runner than a passer. Norvell was hoping Chuba Purdy would emerge, but the younger brother of Brock Purdy was hampered by a broken collarbone that impeded his progress.

Outstanding Offensive performers:

Travis was the best of the rotating quarterbacks. The Louisville transfer led the Seminoles in both passing and rushing yards. Travis did show improvement throwing the football, though the Seminoles were predictable when he was under center.

Corbin was second on the team in rushing yards behind quarterback Jordan Travis. Corbin proved himself to be a solid pitch man next to Travis. Corbin would have been more effective if the offensive line played better and if the Seminoles did not have to play behind as much as they did this season.

Quarterback: F

Legendary head coach Steve Spurrier said it best; if you have two quarterbacks, you don’t have any. Florida State played four quarterbacks this season, and it showed. No quarterback completed 60 percent of their passes or threw more touchdowns than interceptions. Some of that is poor offensive line play, and some of it is learning a new offense. It will be interesting to see if any of the quarterbacks who played this season start next year.

Running back: C+

Running back was the best position group of the offense. The running backs, including quarterback Jordan Travis who led the team in rushing yards, were solid this past season. Texas A&M transfer Jashaun Corbin led Florida State running backs in rush yards this season. Corbin, along with La’Damian Webb and Lawrence Toafili, all averaged over five yards per rush attempt. Had the Seminoles played with a lead more often, the running game would have been more of a factor.

Offensive Line: D-

The offensive line gets a passing grade off of the strength of the running game. Pass blocking was another matter. The Seminoles ranked 112th in the country in sacks allowed this past season. The running game, on the other hand, finished a respectable 31st in rush yards per game. This was a line that had talent, but they did not play well together. This, along with quarterback, are two areas of need for Norvell’s staff to improve.

Wide Receivers/Tight Ends: D

This was a disappointing skill group for the Seminoles. Their best wide receiver, Tamarrion Terry, opted out most of the season after just 23 receptions. One of the reasons for their struggles was the struggles of the quarterback position. It isn’t easy to develop a rapport with a quarterback if they keep changing week to week.
