Recapping National Signing Day, big news from EA Sports: A Blitz Podcast
By Zach Bigalke
National Signing Day has passed, and we have the winners and losers. That and big news from EA Sports in this week’s Saturday Blitz Podcast.
Sometimes the timing turns out absolutely awful for recording the Saturday Blitz Podcast. Such a situation happened last week, when recording completed the night before EA Sports announced the impending return of their college football video game franchise. With that still ringing in everyone’s ears, football fans also had National Signing Day to contend with as teams rounded out their rosters for 2021 and beyond.
Those two threads of conversation guide this week’s podcast. In the opening segment, we dive in to discuss the big stories out of National Signing Day. Which schools racked up the most talent? Did any program set themselves up to spring surprises in the College Football Playoff discussion down the road? Just as importantly, which teams failed to live up to expectations in this year’s cohort?
From there the discussion turns to the video game every college football fan has longed to see return basically since it vanished after the 2014 edition. What should EA Sports keep in mind as they reboot this venerated franchise, and how long will we have to wait until we can buy the first edition of the revived series?
