Find the next great quarterback to fit a system after a multi-year starter leaves is always the most difficult task for a head coach. To add insult to injury, not only is Ian Book gone, but his backup Phil Jurkovec, a former blue-chip prospect, transferred to Boston College before the 2020 season and actually played really well for the Eagles.

That leaves Notre Dame in a trick position entering spring ball with no clear starter and a few guys battling it out — transfer Jack Coan from Wisconsin makes things interesting.

After the dust settles in 2021, the Irish should have a decent starter, but if Brian Kelly wants a talented dual-threat to keep his team in the national spotlight for years, Gavin Wimsatt is the guy.

The four-star dual-threat is ranked the No. 72 overall prospect in the country and the third-best mobile quarterback, according to the composite. And 247Sports is a little more bullish on him, ranking him 40th overall and as the No. 2 dual-threat.

Notre Dame will be battling it out with West Virginia, Rutgers, Oregon, Ole Miss, Louisville, Kentucky, Georgia Tech and Cincinnati for his services.
