4-star DT/DE Quintin Somerville

If Kelly wants to get UCLA football to a level of competing for Pac-12 championships, the recruiting operation will need to improve.

The Bruins ranked 19th according to the 247 sports team rankings in the 2018 recruiting class but the past three years haven’t had a class ranked higher than 30th overall, which is where the Bruins ranked during this cycle.

However, one big recruiting victory for UCLA football during the 2021 class was landing four-star defensive lineman Quintin Somerville out of Scottsdale.

Somerville is intriguing because he’s athletic and was long recruited as a defensive end, but he’s listed at just 6-foot-1 257 pounds. He was committed to Michigan for a long time before getting flipped before early signing day and with the Bruins in need of defensive line help, both at end and tackle, it wouldn’t be shocking to see Somerville play early.

He’s ranked No. 221 overall and was the No. 15 strong-side defensive end and if put in the right positions, he could have an instant impact on the pass rush.
