Ohio State Football: 3 Off-Season questions for the Buckeyes
By Dante Pryor
Is C.J. Stroud the obvious choice to start next season?
The short answer is yes. Stroud, a four-star pro-style quarterback from California, was part of Ohio State’s 2020 recruiting class. Though Stroud did not throw a pass last season, the expectation is for him to be next in line.
However, Stroud might not be the most obvious choice. In this class, five-star quarterback Kyle McCord comes to campus from Philadelphia as part of the 2021 recruiting class. Healthy competition would be good for both quarterbacks.
It does not matter which quarterback starts for Ohio State; whoever is behind center in Columbus will have plenty of weapons to throw to next season. Wide receiver Chris Olave decided to come back for his senior year. Olave will be paired with Garrett Wilson, Jaxson Smith-Njiba and Julian Flemming, both five-stars.
Ohio State snagged another five-star receiver in the 2021 class in Emeka Egbuka from Washington. The coffers are full of elite wide receivers in Columbus.
Though Stroud and McCord are the likely front runners, do not count out Arizona native Jack Miller III. Miller is not as highly-touted as Stroud was coming out of California, but he has a similar skill set as Stroud and has spent two years as part of the program as Stroud did.
There might be some temptation to start McCord, the first five-star quarterback to commit to Ohio State since Braxton Miller, but Ryan day and quarterbacks coach Corey Dennis will play the best quarterback coming out of camp.
May the best man win.
