Big 12 Football best players of all-time: 12. Jason White, QB, Oklahoma football

Jason White was absolutely dominant from 2003 to 2004 and if he had been playing at that same level for more than two years, he might have cracked the top five on this list. White threw 75 touchdowns and only 19 interceptions in his final two seasons for the Sooners and had 3,846 yards passing in 2003 and 3,205 in his senior season of 2004.

White was named the AP Player of the Year in 2003 and was also awarded the coveted Heisman Trophy. He additionally earned the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year Award in both 2003 and 2004 and had other awards such as the Davey O’Brien Award (twice), the Maxwell Award, and the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.

Unfortunately, the young man had a tough start to his career before then. He spent five seasons in Oklahoma because he was a medical redshirt after dealing with an ankle injury and two torn ACLs. He was still able to bounce back from that rough start and lead the Sooners to a Big 12 Championship and got them to the NCAA Championship Game — they lost to the USC Trojans but still made it to the big game.

White entered the 2005 NFL Draft but was not selected and did not get a chance to work out for any teams. His knee injuries were likely a reason for that — and when he was finally called by the Kansas City Chiefs for a workout further down the road, he declined due to his knees. Still, his time at Oklahoma was something to remember.
