3. Skill players on both teams put on an offensive show

The skill players were on full display for both Grambling State and Jackson State on Saturday. The over/under for the game was 50.5 in most places, and if you bet the over, you made a bit of money.

Coming into today’s game, Grambling seemed to have the defensive advantage and, it looked that way early. However, Tyson Alexander and the Jackson State offensive line found their rhythm and began to control the line of scrimmage.

Alexander ended the game with a career-high 184 yards, including a 53-yard run also a career-high. Not to be outdone was quarterback Jalon Jones who completed 12 passes for 180 yards and added 42 rushing yards.

It was Jackson State’s second consecutive game with 400 total yards. Wide receiver Warren Newman collected 54 yards and a touchdown. His fellow receiver Daylon Brown had just two catches, however, it was a 64-yard touchdown catch.

Not to be outdone was Grambling quarterback Geremy Hickbottom. The redshirt senior led Grambling in both passing and rushing. Hickbottom threw for 237 yards and ran for 81 with two total touchdowns.

One of the more questionable decisions was Grambling head coach Broderick Fobbs taking out Hickbottom while playing lights out in the first half. It seemed as if the offense never fully recovered in a game that was a last team with the ball wins sort of game.
