Willie Fritz, Tulane

One of the first things you want to look at, is who in the heck really wants to be the head football coach at Kansas? There aren’t tons of connections to the program, but one guy who is from the state and is a Group of Five head coach is Tulane’s Willie Fritz.

Fritz is from the state of Kansas and certainly has the kind of head-coaching experience the Jayhawks are looking for. He spent two years as the head coach at Georgia Southern (18-7) before taking over for Tulane.

Fritz is 29-33 in five years with the Green Wave and he’s coached them to three consecutive bowl bids. He’s been the head coach of other programs too and his experience dates back to 1997.

So in that regard, he wouldn’t be a risk for the Jayhawks. He has won everywhere he’s been and his knowledge of the state and the area could be huge for recruiting purposes.

He’s also a guy who would probably be willing to listen, which matters a lot too.
