1. Quick takeaways for Jackson State

Despite outclassing the Delta Devils in this game, the Tigers were sloppy toward the half and the offense went away in the third quarter. The defensive line was not dominant against an inferior offensive line.

Coach Sanders cannot be pleased with the inconsistency of the running game. The Tigers, who were dominant against Grambling last week on the ground, averaged under five yards per carry against the Delta Devils.

The offensive staff is trusting Jalon Jones more with the playbook. Though Jones completion percentage took a dip this afternoon, Jones went downfield more often today than against Grambling State.

Quick takeaways for Mississippi Valley State

The Delta Devils had not played a game in 479 days, and it showed. They were not in sync for most of the game. The defensive line however, played well, getting consistent pressure and limiting the Jackson State running game.

MIscues kept the Delta Devils from getting in the endzone all game long. Poor passing by Jelani Eason stalled many drives this afternoon. There were also some critical penalties that kept the Devils behind the sticks.

If the Devils are going to win some games this season, they have to be on schedule. If Mississippi Valley State is in second and long situations they are likely going to punt. The Devils do not have the skill players to make enough chunk plays to get out of bad situations.

The Devils flashed at times in this game, especially with their defensive line. There is still some building Itta Bena, however.
