HBCU Football: The top 10 HBCU NFL Draft Prospects
By Dante Pryor
1. Bryan Mills, Cornerback- North Carolina Central
Bryan Mills has made a consistent ascent up draft boards since the fall of 2020. Named one of the Reese’s Senior Bowl top 250, Mills held his own during the week of practice and the game. Mills parlayed a strong showing at the Senior Bowl has into an NFL Combine invitation.
The Combine is different this year, taking place at on-campus pro days instead of Indianapolis. A combine invitation is a good sign for Mills, who hopes to hear his name called in April. Though North Carolina Central did not play this season because of COVID-19, Mills’ existing tape and strong showing during the draft process have helped tremendously.
Mills is a polished plug-and-play contributor on day one despite coming from an FCS school. Despite being a bit light (180 pounds), Mills plays physically and tough. Mills has a tremendous amount of upside. The California native is a big corner at over six feet tall but does not play stiff.
While at NCCU, Mills has been clocked at 4.46 in the 40-yard dash. A good 40 time could propel Mills to the middle of the draft and possibly in the top 100. Mills needs to learn the nuances of the game and improve his technique at the next level.
For one team, the upside will be too much to ignore.
