At one point in time, defenders would just shrug their shoulders as they knew exactly what was coming but simply couldn’t do anything to stop it. Colt McCoy would receive the ball from under center, take a few steps back and complete a 15-yard pass. It never mattered if it was first down or fourth down, a completion was coming and everyone knew it.

At the University of Texas, seemingly everything McCoy threw, his receivers caught. In his first year away from high school, McCoy took a backseat as his team, led by Vince Young, took home the National Championship. Once Young left, the burden to win immediately fell on his shoulders. And despite carrying around a slender frame, McCoy proved that he was more capable of doing it.

Three touchdowns and no interceptions were his stat line for his first-ever game. That, of course, became a consistent theme for him throughout his four years. Pretty much every time he flung the ball down the field, a receiver caught it. In his third year under center, McCoy completed 76.7 percent of his passes to go along with 34 touchdowns with only eight picks.

Somehow though, he would finish as the runner-up for the Heisman that year. In his senior campaign, McCoy would fall short of winning the Heisman again but the other trophies he hauled in did more than enough to satisfy him. McCoy won the Manning Award, Davey O’Brien Award, Maxwell trophy and a long list of accolades. He was also the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year. He wasn’t all about just his own success as he also led his team to a win in the Fiesta Bowl.

In short, McCoy piled up accolades with what many would consider an average arm. He was just so accurate that it didn’t matter if he had limitations. Almost no one in history had a better college career than Colt McCoy.
