30 best college football quarterbacks of all-time: 5. Tommie Frazier, Nebraska football

College stats:

  • 3,521 passing yards
  • 43 TDs
  • 11 INTs
  • 49.5 completion percentage
  • 1,955 rushing yards
  • 36 rushing TDs

The numbers don’t jump off the page. Nor do they scream all-time great. Yet, in the case of Tommie Frazier, the stats simply don’t tell the entirety of his story.

In 1992, Frazier was considered the number three recruit coming out of high school. Once he took his talents to Nebraska, he hit the ground running, literally.

Frazier ran for 399 yards in his first year and 704 in year two. Nebraska became a juggernaut with him at the helm. He pushed his team to back-to-back undefeated seasons in 1994 and 1995. With Frazier throwing for only 1,362 yards, he relied on his legs a ton. That senior campaign he chugged it for 604 yards. He combined for 31 TDs both through the air and on the ground. He was unflappable during pressure situations and never gave up.

Even with Frazier dealing with blood clots in his right calf, he pushed his team past a third-ranked Miami team. The gaudy numbers simply weren’t a thing in Frazier’s time.

In fact, with three completed passes for 25 yards and 31 rushing yards, Frazier and his pedestrian numbers were given the MVP award. Winning was what drove Frazier so regardless of his actual stats, Frazier routed teams consistently and deserves to be on this list.
