30 best college football quarterbacks of all-time: 25. Michael Vick Virginia Tech football

College stats:

  • 3,299 passing yards
  • 21 TDs
  • 11 INTs
  • 1,299 rushing yards

If you didn’t live through the Michael Vick experience, then you simply wouldn’t understand how unbelievably incredible he was.

Vick’s numbers aren’t going to wow anyone really. In his first year, Vick threw for just 2,065 passing yards to go along with 13 TDs and 5 picks. The following year was even worst as he threw for 1,234 yards with eight touchdowns and six interceptions but his stardom was more about his legs, not his arm.

Virginia Tech’s head signal-caller ran through, over and around defenders at will. His first official game saw him rush for three touchdowns in one quarter. Tech would go undefeated during the regular season but come up just a few plays short of winning the Bowl Championship Series National title game in the Nokia Sugar Bowl.

His dynamic running ability froze defenders and onlookers as he was a one-man band. At the end of his first year, Vick would finish third in the Heisman Trophy voting. During his second year, the wheels he showed off the year prior went to another level and were on full display against Boston College as he ran for 210 yards. Several injuries stopped him from breaking out that year but he did take home the MVP of the Toyota Gator Bowl after leading his team to a victory.

Ultimately, Vick’s college career pushed him to become the number one pick in the 2001 NFL Draft and although most would give an incredulous look to his overall numbers, Vick’s placement on this list is unquestioned.
