Texas A&M football: Kellen Mond to Steelers

The Steelers wanted Big Ben to come back for another year and after working on a redo of his contract earlier this month, Roethlisberger will return to the Steel City for another season.

But how long can he last? How long can the Steelers wait to draft his potential replacement?

Pittsburgh has drafted a number of guys in early-to-mid rounds over the years trying to find the next solid QB for the franchise and Mason Rudolph could be the guy. He has 15 career touchdowns and 10 career interceptions but he hasn’t been out of this world.

Would Pittsburgh draft another young arm? You better believe they would if they thought Mond could be their starter in the future and if developed right, maybe he could be.

You want a big, strong quarterback to throw the ball in cold weather and Mond fits the bill. He also wouldn’t cost a first or maybe not even a second-round pick. He would also then give the Steelers another viable option to replace Big Ben, which is happening sooner rather than later.
