3. Grambling State puts up some points

There is no evidence the Tigers can score in this game. That said, Grambling has to find some offense from somewhere to have any chance to win this game. One glimmer of hope for the Tigers’ offense is the Jaguars’ defense.

Southern has been solid, if not unspectacular, on the defensive side of the ball. Southern allows 22.8 points per game defensively and can give up some yards. Southern allowed Alabama State to run for 4.6 yards per carry and Arkansas-Pine Bluff 5.1.

Unfortunately for Grambling, they do not run the football that well. Southern has, however, allowed some yards through the air as well. Texas Southern threw for 281 yards and 13 yards per completion, and Jackson  State averaged 14 yards per completion.

However, Grambling’s starting quarterback Geremy Hickbottom entered the transfer portal and will not play. It is up to head coach Broderick Fobbs, also serving as offensive coordinator, to find a way to scheme some offense for the Tigers.

What Grambling does not want is for Southern to control the ball. The Jaguars want to run and take the air out of the ball. If Grambling cannot find any offense and score, Southern will eat the clock and limit Grambling’s possessions.
