SWAC Football: 3 takeaways from Alabama A&M’s title win
By Dante Pryor
Glass elevated the entire team this spring.
This afternoon’s game was a microcosm of what Aqeel Glass means to his team. Glass’s level of play either energized or deflated the play of his teammates. When he struggled in the first half of the game, the entire team, including the defense, seemed to struggle to find their rhythm.
When Glass found his rhythm, the entire team found its rhythm. The defense found another gear and forced turnovers, and sacked UAPB quarterback Skyler Perry. Alabama A&M’s defense found a way to keep the Lions out of the endzone in the third quarter.
That third quarter was the difference in the game. Pine-Bluff could not score until late in the fourth quarter. Glass took a team with a marginal offensive line and an average secondary, leading them to a SWAC title this spring.
What has been most impressive is the poise Glass showed when Alabama A&M had the national spotlight. There was never a time where it seemed as if Glass felt like the team was going to lose. Glass played well when all the pressure was on him to perform.
Three games, three wins, 12 touchdowns, and one interception.
