No. 2 Chicago Bears

After several disappointing seasons and Drafts, the Chicago Bears needed to make a big splash in this 2021 NFL Draft to potentially save their season and beyond.

Knowing they are too high to take a franchise-changing player, the Bears took a gamble by trading a big package to the New York Giants to move from the 20th overall pick to #11.

The Bears selected their franchise quarterback in Ohio State’s Justin Fields. A dynamic, dual-threat, and experienced quarterback such as Fields will have the best opportunity to make the Bears contend for a Super Bowl.

The Bears’ biggest need to address was the offensive line more than the quarterback. Chicago wasn’t finished trading as they traded up to acquire Oklahoma State offensive tackle Teven Jenkins with the 39th overall pick. The next pick they made was in the fifth round for another offensive tackle in Missouri’s Larry Borom with the 151st overall pick.

The Bears continued to make picks on the offensive side of the ball with their next two picks. Chicago found a potential starting running back in Virginia Tech’s Khalil Herbert with the 217th overall pick and an effective project at wide receiver in North Carolina’s Dazz Newsome with the 221st overall pick. These are players that will find themselves on the field soon.

The Bears used their last two picks to address the defensive side of the ball in Oregon cornerback Thomas Graham Jr. (228th overall pick – sixth round) and BYU defensive tackle Khyiris Tonga. These are players that were selected to depth and to utilize their special talents for their highly efficient defense.
