2. Buchner immediately raises the offense’s ceiling

When watching the spring game, the offense ran much smoother when Tyler Buchner was on the field as opposed to Jack Coan and Drew Pyne. That’s not saying the other two quarterbacks don’t have a grasp of the offense, but Buchner was just the best overall passer and made the most of his limited opportunities.

In fact, he was the only quarterback to attempt less than 10 passes and he still nearly finished with more yards than Pyne and was only 50 yards below Coan with 23 fewer attempts.

The offense just looked more explosive with Buchner running the show and the fact that he’s a dual-threat with decent size at 6-2, 205 pounds makes him all the more intriguing. Brian Kelly likes quarterbacks who can pick up yards with their legs and he can definitely do that as he showed on his touchdown run.

Buchner is built in the same mold as Ian Book but with a stronger arm and better size. He immediately boosts this offense’s effectiveness more than Coan or Pyne.
