1. Best option for long-term success

If Notre Dame is going to make a run this season, it’ll need the high ceiling that Tyler Buchner provides but if they want success for the next 3-4 years, this option makes the most sense.

Buchner comes in as one of the best freshman quarterbacks in the country and if you look at the most successful teams in college football over the past few years, they trusted a young quarterback early on and they developed into All-Americans by their sophomore or junior seasons.

Oklahoma had a ton of success last year with Spencer Rattler and he’s now looking like a potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Alabama had success with Tua Tagovailoa from his freshman to his junior season, Clemson saw similar success with Trevor Lawrence starting as a true freshman before becoming the No. 1 pick in 2021.

Buchner may not draw the same hype as those other guys, but he could be every bit as impactful on Notre Dame if he starts early on.

Let’s say the Irish start him and win nine games this season, there’s only one direction to go with him gaining valuable experience. He could lead Notre Dame back to the playoff as a sophomore and the same as a junior. Heck, he could do this as a freshman, too.

If Notre Dame wants long-term success, Buchner is the way to go.
