3. Jibri Blount, TE/ATH, North Carolina Central (Dolphins)

If the last name is familiar to you, it is who you think. Jibri Blount is the son of Steelers Hall of Fame cornerback Mel Blount. His older brother Akil signed with the Dolphins out of Florida A&M, and his younger brother Khalid currently plays the North Carolina Central football team.

Suffice it to say the pedigree and bloodlines are there. They need to be considering Blount did not play a single down of college football; Blount signed with Miami after a stellar basketball career at NCCU.

Blount started his basketball career at Cleveland State before transferring to North Carolina Central after his second year. Blount was a key piece of two NCCU teams that went on to win the MEAC (the Eagles were regular-season champs this year, but their season was cut short because of the pandemic).

Blount nearly averaged a double-double as a senior (19 points and nine rebounds per game) and attempts to do what San Diego Charger great Antonio Gates did coming out of Kent State.

Though Blount has long odds, he’ll likely be either on the practice squad or the fourth tight end; the pedigree and athleticism are undeniable. At 6-foot-7 and 230 pounds, Blount is built like another basketball player turned football star, Jimmy Graham.

Though Graham did begin his transformation while still at Miami, Blount’s athletic skill set is good enough to get an opportunity to play.
