1. vs. South Florida (W)

Back in 2016, this could have been one heck of a game. However, the USF Bulls have endured a massive fall from grace within past years, and this affair will unfold on NC State’s turf. Even with the latter typically struggling with non-conference competition, this one should not conclude with a tight score.

2. at Mississippi State (L)

Like I just said, the Wolfpack rarely handle their opening games with ease, and this one involves visiting an SEC West power. Bulldogs head coach Mike Leach will have a much firmer grasp on Mississippi State’s ways of functioning entering his second year with the program, and he will get a statement win early as a result.

3. vs. Furman (W)

There merely isn’t much to say here. If NC State struggles at all, it will be a darn shame. Realistically, Furman should be slaughtered in this one, likely by five or more touchdowns.

4. vs. Clemson (L)

Something nagging at the back of my head tells me that this game has a chance of being quite competitive, but I’ll just file that away under wishful thinking for now. The game will be in North Carolina, and will directly follow the Furman beatdown. But at the end of the day, Clemson is still Clemson.
