Duke Blue Devils: Sonny Jurgensen, QB

It is truly astonishing how this is the best ever that Duke Football has to offer, but meanwhile, if this list was based around ACC basketball players, I would be here all day looking for the Blue Devils crowned jewel.

Sonny Jurgensen, the HOF quarterback who is most known for his play in the 1960s, was an NFL Champion in 1960, along with amassing accolades including but not limited to five Pro Bowl selections and five seasons being the league’s passing yards leader.

Throughout his time at Duke, Jurgensen led the Blue Devils to some relevance, but not enough to really be etched into ACC football history. Due to this, he was a 4th-round selection in the 1957 draft.

A decent career at Duke, followed by an outstanding career (at least for the time) in the NFL. Not bad for a guy who is old enough to remember Pearl Harbor.
