8. TCU Horned Frogs

The Horned Frogs 2020 season was better than 2019, but they did not have the typical Gary Patterson “bounce back” season. Instead, the Frogs were okay but not dynamic. It seems by the last two seasons in Fort Worth, TCU is at a bit of a crossroads.

Offensively, the Horned Frogs were up and down with Max Duggan at quarterback. Sam Jackson, Alexander Honig, and Trent Battle were all brought in to push Duggan if not to supplant him. Both Jackson and Battle may end up in other positions.

Jackson played receiver in high school and quarterback; TCU could use a player with Jackson’s athleticism on the perimeter. Battle has the bloodlines as his father played major league baseball, and it shows with his arm strength.

Keep an eye on all-purpose back Ahmonte Watkins. If Patterson keeps him on offense, Duggan has a runner who can score anywhere on the field. Watkins is a sprinter with big-time speed. What he provides as a playmaker is something the Frogs have desperately missed offensively.
