College Football: Ranking the Power Five conferences for 2021 season
By Austin Lloyd
2. Big Ten
The Big Ten has it all: current relevance, depth, talent on the field. There is only one conference that does it better, but we’ll get to them in a second.
Ohio State was the championship runner-up last season and shows no sign of slowing down. Also, teams that were down in 2020, such as Penn State and Michigan, are destined to bounce back some. Wisconsin and Iowa are two competitive squads that strive on their physicality, and powers like Indiana and Northwestern are on the rise. This is fixing to be a great year for their league.
1. SEC
The SEC does everything the Big Ten does, but better. Ohio State was the runner-up, while Alabama was the champ. Michigan and Wisconsin are good, but Georgia and Florida are better.
Once you try to compare the entirety of one 14-team conference to another, the Big Ten may have a fighting chance, but the SEC seems to prevail in every aspect that matters and is more dominant on a general scale.
Bama is the defending champ and is a favorite for many in regards to winning once more this upcoming winter. Meanwhile, Georgia has received a ton of offseason hype while already being an outstanding program as of late. If those two make up half of the playoff bracket this season, it will be their second time doing so in just five years.
Quite easily, the Southeastern Conference sits atop the Power Five rankings until further notice.
