Washington head coach Jimmy Lake has to be excited about year two for a simple reason; he and his staff get a full offseason. Coach Lake and the Huskies had a full spring and get a full summer. Despite some uncertainty offensively, the most impactful new faces could be on defense.

The Huskies got two elite talents from the portal, outside linebacker Jeremiah Martin from Texas A&M and defensive back Brendan Radley-Hiles from Oklahoma. Both players are sure to have an impact on an already stout Huskies defense this fall.

  • Jeremiah Martin (transfer), DE: Though Martin played defensive end while at Texas A&M, Martin will transition to outside linebacker for the Huskies and their hybrid defense. Martin gives head coach Jimmy Lake a long, athletic defender on edge, rushing the quarterback standing or with his hand on the turf.
  • Brendan Radley-Hiles (transfer), CB: Lake made his bones a defensive backs coach, so he has to love getting a player like Radley-Hiles via the portal. The Oklahoma transfer brings leadership and physicality to the Huskies’ secondary. Oklahoma defensive coordinator used Radley-Hiles all over the field to blitz and cover the slot. Expect Lake to use him the same way.
