While Robert Griffin III was taking over the entire country, a patient Bryce Petty was sitting along the sideline. The former redshirt and grey shirt quarterback from Midlothian, Texas, elevated the Baylor program to a whole new level starting in 2013.

The 2013 season was also the Bears final season at Floyd Casey Stadium. The team made sure to send the stadium out on a good note.

The Bears were scoring points at an astronomical rate, exceeding 69 points in each of their first four games. Lead by a 41-12 win over No. 12 Oklahoma, Baylor got out to a 9-0 start and getting the highest AP Poll ranking in school history at No. 4.

Petty was able to score multiple touchdowns in all 13 games the Bears played, led by 287 yards and two touchdowns over Texas to clinch the Big 12 Championship, the first in program history. The special 2013 season ended on a sour note, with a Fiesta Bowl loss to Blake Bortles and UCF.

2014, the Bears got recognition, being ranked No.10 in the country to start the season. Baylor once again got out to a hot start but did some of it without a healthy Petty. He injured his ribs in their opener against SMU and was sideliend for a few games.

Baylor still got out to a 6-0 start, lead by the infamous 61-58 win over TCU in Waco. The offense and defense were playing well until a trip to Morgantown haunted the Bears. Clint Trickett and Kevin White torched the Baylor secondary, while Petty never found a rhythm. After reaching No. 4 in the country, Baylor lost their first game.

The season would not be lost, as Baylor finished the season with routes over the Oklahoma schools and a second straight Big 12 Championship win over Kansas State.

Baylor set to stay in-state and play in the Cotton Bowl against Michigan State. After getting out to a 20 point lead, Petty and the Bears choked down the stretch and eventually fell 42-41.

After Robert Griffin III’s 2011 season, Baylor was set to go back to mediocrity by many outside of the progam. Petty and the electric offense Art Briles brought kept the Bears back on the map and they were expecting to be set for years to come.
