Baylor Romney

The next two quarterbacks on this list will be no strangers to BYU fans. Romney saw playing time in 2019 and 2020, starting two games in 2019.

In his first career start against a ranked Boise State, Romney went 15-for-26 with 221 yards and two touchdowns, and he did not turn the ball over. BYU won the game 28-25.

Casey Lundquist of Sports Illustrated’s FanNation wrote about Romney back in 2020 and told of his first plays as a Cougar:

"Baylor Romney made his first appearance in a BYU uniform against South Florida. He was immediately thrown into the fire – Romney’s first drive starting with 7:37 remaining in the fourth quarter when BYU was down 23-27. Romney was seemingly unfazed by the pressure and led two BYU drives to give the Cougars the chance to win. BYU ultimately fell short, but Romney ended the game with 73 yards on 10 passing attempts."

Experience plus good game managing skills could help Romney gain an edge over his competition. He is coming into his fourth year with the program, so he should be familiar with the offensive playbook. In terms of a safe choice, Romney might be your go to guy to start week one for the Cougars.
