Manageable non-conference schedule could be the difference for Texas State

Most teams with Texas State’s profile have very challenging non-conference schedules, but the Bobcats’ is pretty manageable. These predictions are not taking into account any suspensions or injuries that might arise, so please keep that in mind.

  • Game 1: Baylor (L)- The Bears make a surprising road trip to San Marcos, but the Bobcats won’t be able to pull the upset.
  • Game 2: At Florida International (L)- This is a toss-up game, but I think with it being on the road, I will give an edge to the Panthers at home.
  • Game 3: Incarnate Word (W)- This will be the easiest game of the year and Texas State should win big
  • Game 4: At Eastern Michigan (L)- Much like the FIU game, this is a tossup and I will give the edge to Eastern Michigan at home.
  • Game 5: South Alabama (W)- The Sun Belt opener for Texas State should result in a win over a rebuilding South Alabama squad
  • Game 6: Troy (L)- This will be a tough game against one of the best teams in the conference and I will give the edge to the Trojans.
  • Game 7: At Georgia State (L)- Going on the road is always tough, especially against one of the best offenses like Georgia State will have.
  • Game 8: At Louisiana (L)- Louisiana might be the favorite in the conference and a potential New Years six bowl contender. Texas State will be no match for them.
  • Game 9: Louisiana Monroe (W)- This is one of the more winnable games on the schedule and Spavital will need this one.
  • Game 10: Georgia Southern (L)- Texas State has come close to upsetting Georgia Southern in the past, but will fall short yet again.
  • Game 11: At Coastal Carolina (L)- Like Louisiana, Coastal will be conference favorites and a threat to make a New Years Six Bowl and will be too much for the Bobcats
  • Game 12: At Arkansas State (L)- The final game of the year should be competitive, but Arkansas State is a tough team to beat at home.

Final Record: 3-9 (2-6 Sun Belt)

There are some toss-up games that Texas State needs to win, but unfortunately for the Bobcats, they are almost all on the road.

If they can pick up some games against Georgia Southern, Eastern Michigan, or Arkansas State, it could be a much different season. I just don’t trust the defense enough to predict a better record for Texas State.
