Tough schedule awaits the Aggies

This will be the first time that New Mexico State will have a chance to play against Division I competition since the 2019 season. It is filled with tough opponents, including Alabama and Kentucky from the SEC. These predictions are made before the season, which means that injuries or suspensions could affect the outcomes of these games.

  • Game 1: UTEP (L)- This is a winnable game for the Aggies, but so many new starters in their first game will be tough to overcome.
  • Game 2: At San Diego State (L)- The Aztecs are rebuilding, but will be too much for New Mexico State.
  • Game 3: At New Mexico (L)- This in-state rivalry will not go in the Aggies’ favor in 2021.
  • Game 4: South Carolina State (W)- This is a winnable game against an FCS opponent and I think the Aggies get it done at home.
  • Game 5: Hawaii (L)- Hawaii is looking to get back to their winning ways under Todd Graham and I think they’ll be too much for the Aggies.
  • Game 6: At San Jose State (L)- The Spartans were a surprise team, winning the MWC last season and their defense will be good again in 2021.
  • Game 7: At Nevada (L): Nevada has one of the best QB’s in Carson Strong and that is bad news for the Aggie defense.
  • Game 8: At Hawaii (L)- One of the stranger schedule quirks will have New Mexico State playing Hawaii twice. The result will be the same.
  • Game 9: Utah State (L)- This could be a potential win here, but I can’t trust the Aggies, even at home.
  • Game 10: At Alabama (L)- Not much to say here but the Aggies will lose this game by a lot.
  • Game 11: At Kentucky (L): Another lopsided loss to an SEC team.
  • Game 12: UMass (L): It would be demoralizing to lose to UMass, but I think the Minutemen have the better team by a slim margin.

Final Record: 1-11

This is a tough schedule that does not include a ton of potential wins. South Carolina State, UMass, UTEP, and Utah State represent the best chances for wins, but when you are this bad, nothing is guaranteed.
