Big 12 Football: Each team’s trap and peak games in 2021

West Virginia
Trap Game: at. Baylor
In the thick of Big 12 play, West Virginia gets a two week trip to the state of Texas, starting with Baylor. The two went into double overtime last season, with the Mountaineers pulling out the 27-21 win.
The Mountaineers lost some key pieces on defense and are expected to take a step back in that area. One half of the Stills brothers, linebacker Tony Fields and safety Tykee Smith all left.
Although the secondary still has some key players in Sean Mahone and Alonzo Addae, they wont be as deep.
Meanwhile, the Bears return 10 starters from last year and went toe-to-toe with the Mountaineers for the entire game. The home team has won every single game of this series, apart from 2017’s 38-36 West Virginia win.
With the game being in Waco and both teams aiming for the middle of the pack in the Big 12, this could easily be a game West Virginia gets caught looking ahead to better opponents and falls in Waco.
Peak Game: Texas
This game essentially became a rivalry when Will Grier crossed the pylon and gave the ‘horns down’, when celebrating converting a two-point conversion to beat the Horns in 2018.
The Mountaineers have a plethora of solid options, and Leddie Brown had an outbreak 2020 season, with over 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns.
Doege’s progression in the off-season will be key, if he can keep his play consistent. Texas was among the worst teams in the country in pass defense, and should be beneficial to the Mountaineers.
With it being senior night in Morgantown and a lot of key contributors to the team being seniors, the Mountaineers should be motivated and have a chance at a monumental win for Neal Brown.
